Dr. Peacock en Sefa: thuis op het water

Een geheim concert

24 June 2021 / Fans will remember Dr Peacock's unforgettable performance last year at the Pyramid of Austerlitz. Just try to outdo that location. Yet despite the corona crisis, they succeeded quite well. Last May, secret recordings took place on a historic sailing ship: top sail schooner Vrijheid, together with fellow Frenchcore artist Sefa. How did that happen? We asked Dr Peacock and Sefa themselves.

Why shoot on a sailing ship?
Dr Peacock: 'I wanted to do something really cool, with a drone. Then I thought: why not at sea, on a nice sailing yacht or something? I really love water and sailing. It makes me very calm. Whether it's a lake or a sea, or a ditch for that matter, it makes me calm. There is something very liberating about it.

Sefa: 'When I heard the idea of a ship, I thought: there is a lot of organisation involved. A large number of musicians, the weather, cameras, drones. But if it works out, we can create something that has never been done before in our scene, and that looks incredibly beautiful. I also recognise what Dr Peacock says about peace and quiet. With only the sea around you, you don't think about anything for a while. It is visually as well as emotionally very restful. You rock back and forth so nicely, as if you were lying in a cradle again.

Dr Peacock: 'It's also that being away from the daily routine. Being surrounded by water, not material. The unspoilt nature. I have nothing with new ships, but everything with old ships. Just like with cars. I prefer an old-timer. That's just how I feel. I feel at home there.

What was it like on the Vrijheid?
Dr Peacock: 'Even better than expected, and I always have very high expectations. It really is a beautiful old ship. It felt like coming home on board, so free. When all the sails were up, that was really fantastic. And then with all those lovely people on board. In the evening, my father cooked hamburgers for everyone. He is always present and very proud.'

Sefa: 'I've just seen the latest version of the images, and the ship really contributed to them being so great. It also exceeded my expectations. The ship is so beautifully big, and it has just the right character.'

"On the Vrijheid it felt like coming home. We created something so magical together."

How did the shoot go?
Dr Peacock: 'It was really unbelievable. Everyone went for it 100,000%. They all thought it was a fantastic idea, which totally fits what we do. We felt we were creating something magical. The end results are also the bomb. I also really want to give a shout out to everyone who participated. They gave their best, for less money, because they thought it was so special and wanted us to have it. The corona time was hard.'

Sefa: 'We got into such a relaxation mode on the ship, that we did some push-ups before the set. Once the music starts playing, it always works out anyway and the adrenaline starts flowing. Musically, it was really good. All compliments to the organisation as well.'

And the charity: Heroes4Life?
Dr Peacock: 'I didn't know about it, but when I heard about it I immediately thought it was a great cause. Children and young people who suffer from a serious illness, that is really terrible. And if they can have a great time, then I'm happy to contribute.'

Sefa: 'I think it is a beautiful and original concept. When I think how relaxed we felt on the boat, so carefree, disconnected from the world, I think it's a welcome change for sick children as well. The water is the perfect place to let go of the world around you'.

"The water is the perfect place to let go of the world around you."
